OVERVIEW

The Silk Road region is seeking an Engineering Faculty member to teach effectively in a practical learner-centered environment, to prepare the students in their chosen profession to contribute to the positive development of the country, adhere to and assist in the development of system-wide policies affecting the College and to actively participate in the academic and extra-curricular life of the College and the community.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop and apply appropriate strategies to ensure effective student learning in a second language environment and help develop the positive relationship between study and work
  • Develop the maximum potential in students by providing effective instruction in line with course and program goals to meet the needs and aspirations of the students and the community
  • Instruction should be learner centered, providing students with individual assistance when necessary. Deal promptly with student learning problems by direct liaison with the student, the program supervisor, and/or appropriate College personnel
  • Monitor and review courses and programs for relevance and identify areas for improvement
  • Develop and utilize the varied learning resources available to provide effective, innovative instruction. Ensure that appropriate learning resources, aids and techniques are developed, utilized and regularly updated to assist student learning. Help to ensure that teaching facilities, equipment and supplies are identified and maintained in good condition
  • Ensure that student progress is continually assessed through the use of tests, projects, assignments, examinations and other appropriate evaluation instruments, and communicated to the student. Monitor student progress continuously both on a college and System-wide basis
  • Contribute to, observe and implement college and system-wide policies and procedures. Respond promptly to the requirements of the College and System
  • Participate in co-curricular activities
  • Develop and maintain awareness of and respect for the students' culture and religious values. Behave appropriately with respect to the customs and cultures, realizing that they represent the College in their activities, both inside and outside the College
  • Provide input to program and course reviews and make recommendations for revision after consultation with students, colleagues and external agencies such as business, industry and schools as required

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related area (Masters/PhD preferred)
  • Must be able to teach courses at different levels (i.e. Diploma, Higher Diploma and Bachelor Levels) in the required areas
  • 3 years relevant industrial work experience
  • 3 years relevant teaching/training experience
  • Internationally recognized Professional Registration or eligibility therefore is preferred
  • Effective presentation skills both theoretical and practical
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, required with demonstrated ability to communicate with people at all levels from different cultures and nationalities.
  • Proven computer literacy.
  • Evidence of a Personal Professional Development Plan
  • Ability to work as a team player in a multi culture work environment.
  • Practical ability in Civil engineering or related discipline
  • Construction management and on-site experience
  • Excellent spoken, written and reading skills in English

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT

  • Oversee teaching technicians/teacher trainees in their preparations of laboratory/practical sessions in support of the respective courses being taught
  • Supervision received from the Program Chair
  • In conducting their duties faculty are required to communicate effectively at all levels within the college, other colleges, and at the system level.
