Those who work with Global Ministry's CONVERGE are committed to a process of discerning God's direction for people who are interested in serving internationally.

There are three basic methods that Mission agencies use to connect people to places of ministry (spoiler: we use #3):

1. The Needs Method
   Every day world needs scream out and demand some form of help.  When some agencies talk to you they are thinking of how to fit you into a role they must fill, a need that must be met.
   
   
2. The Volunteer Method
   According to this model, you volunteer your service based on what you believe God would have you do and the agency creates a place for you to carry out this ministry.
   
   
3. The Coaching method
   Here an agency attempts to discern God's direction in your life as to whether this may involve cross-cultural ministry.  The agency attempts to help you understand your call to service, your readiness for cross-cultural ministry, and then match you with how to fulfill that call within the overall strategy and direction of that agency.

Global Ministries uses the third model, the "Coaching" method for discernment.  We seek to help people listen to God's call, to hear what others see in them, to examine their gifts and preparation, and then to match these with opportunities for serving God as seen by our global team. Discernment is both an individual as well as community journey of seeking to match a person with a ministry place.
