John's Gospel, 1:14 The Message
Nathan was born into a Christian heritage with many fond memories growing up. Being in the church taught him many good things about Christianity and about having a relationship with Christ. He believes that God had called him to missions as a child. Nathan also had the privilege of attending a Christian high school which was key in building his knowledge of the Bible and of Jesus Christ.
It was through his youth group that he had the opportunity to go to Guatemala and Nicaragua on a mission trip and it was on that trip that God solidified Nathan’s call to serve him cross-culturally. From that point on Nathan became unsatisfied with living in Canada with the abundance he had and with a burden to live a much simpler life, while bringing the gospel to those who had not received it.
In September 1996 Sandra first gave her life to the Lord, exchanging 20 years of emptiness and brokenness for God’s new life and purpose. There are some very special women who played a key role in nurturing and guiding her during those earlier days and she believes she is where she is today because of their faithfulness in mentoring and discipling her. She also believes this is why she has such a passion for mentoring and discipling.
One year after accepting Christ as Saviour, Sandra went on a mission trip to the Philippines. It was during this trip that she clearly sensed God was doing something amazing in her heart.
It was life altering to see poor people who were dying physically yet who were completely filled with contentment and joy in their Lord. She says, “Even more than this was the knowledge that nothing else but committing my life for cross-cultural missions would truly satisfy my heart… My heart is to see women come to a life-changing relationship with the Lord, and to see women who already know him grow to deeper levels and experience new freedom, passion and purpose in their life. ”
In 2004 Nathan and Sandra really sensed that God was calling them to move towards this goal of missions. After much prayer, and with God’s peace, they moved to Calgary to start a new phase in their lives. Nathan became a pastor at Rockyview Alliance Church in Calgary, Alberta for a short term and now they are embarking on a new adventure with their family in Mexico City.
