OVERVIEW

The Silk Road region is seeking a Pastor of Discipleship and Christian Growth to provide leadership, strategy and structure to enable the Church to fulfill its mission statement to bring adult “believers to maturity in Christ.” 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • This person will be accountable ultimately to the Church board and will be an ex-officio member of the board.  He will report directly to the senior pastor.

  • Oversee and provide leadership to a variety of strategic and appropriate Christian education and training opportunities (Bible studies, classes, seminars, workshops, etc.) for the adults of the Church with a goal of enhancing spiritual growth.
    • Encourage and provide staff liaison to existing ministries
    • Identify spiritual growth needs in the congregation and develop strategies for meeting them
    • Locate/develop appropriate material or curriculum resources
    • Identify, recruit, train, motivate and support leaders/teachers
    • Appropriately promote and publicize available classes/opportunities
    • Ensure that regular classes on family living topics are offered
    • Provide staff support and liaison to the Men’s and Women’s Ministries of the Church

  • Provide appropriate strategy, leadership and encouragement for a network of small groups for adults which meet regularly to promote spiritual growth and Christian fellowship.
    • Motivate people to form and/or join fellowship/growth groups
    • Recruit and train leaders for fellowship/growth groups
    • Identify and provide appropriate materials for fellowship/growth groups
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of different fellowship/growth groups

  • Oversee the process of welcoming and assimilating people into the Church
    • Oversee strategies to welcome and follow up first time visitors
    • Oversee strategies to help people connect with one another and the Church and to facilitate the progression from visitor to church participant and member.

  • Oversee and develop strategies and events to strengthen the sense of community/family in the congregation as a whole. 

  • Preach as needed in the services or campuses of the Church

  • Participate in a spirit of teamwork with the rest of the Church staff
    • Attend regular staff meetings for prayer, planning and mutual support
    • Coordinate with other ministries and staff to ensure cooperation and mutual benefit of different strategies and ministries
    • Assist other senior staff in providing pastoral care to the congregation as needed (including, but not limited to counseling, hospital visitation, officiating at weddings and funerals).

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Personal conversion experience and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Spiritual maturity manifested in godly character (consistently displaying the fruit of the Spirit and leadership qualities described in I Timothy 3)
  • Graduate degree in Theology or Biblical studies
  • Whole-hearted agreement with the Church’s Statement of Faith
  • Ability to accurately and clearly present spiritual truth to adults in all sizes of groups and levels of spiritual maturity
  • Good people skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Able to lead, motivate and mobilize adults
  • A servant’s heart
  • Prior job experience in a similar ministry (2 years minimum)
  • Experience in multi-cultural ministry settings preferred
